Toolbox

PSE Management Training and Consultancy Services is dedicated to achieving positive change for managers and leaders.  We have provided some useful tools that can assist with some common workplace activities.

Coaching

Worksheet

This tool (CIGAR) provides a conversation structure for facilitating ‘coaching’ sessions with individuals or groups.

Coaching supports the staff member to ‘problem-solve’ and reflect on their practice, in a collaborative way with their supervisor. The skill of coaching challenges the dominant method of advice giving, and involves ‘asking questions not answering them’.

Behaviour Based Interview Questions

This tool provides a list of behaviour based interview questions to support a panel to shape the applicant questions to the role.

Behavioural interviewing asks the interviewee to ‘demonstrate’ examples of their past experiences or ideas, and go through how they behaved in those circumstances.

Ideas

Brief

This tool assists supervisors to capture ‘ideas’ from staff in an organised way.

We all want to support idea generation across our workplaces. The Ideas Brief provides an effective way to prompt staff to provide detail around their ideas, as well as, support the supervisor to be organised in processing ideas.

Addressing

Workplace Conflict

This tool provides a list of 10 phrases that can be used to address any conflict in the workplace.

Effective conflict management involves a delicate balance between being clear and direct, with also demonstrating understanding and empathy to the other person. These phrases provide guidance on language that can help get the balance right.

Business

Case

This tool provides a structure for anyone developing a project idea, to outline the rationale and investment in a new project.

This will provide management with confidence that their investment is worthwhile in considering a thorough presentation.  The tool also provides an effective agenda for facilitating a meeting exploring a new business proposition.

Guide to Running

Successful 360° Projects

This tool outlines a process for conducting 360 Degree Feedback for staff.

360° Feedback is a unique opportunity for staff to receive feedback from any direct reports, colleagues, supervisor, or external partners. It’s critical 360’s are done in a planned and confidential manner - this tool provides a comprehensive guide to doing it well.

Remote Supervision Checklist

This tool outlines some of the key priorities we need to consider when supervising from distance.

Some of the traditional supervisory practices do not necessarily work well in a remote/virtual context, so this checklist outlines some of the key considerations for doing parts of the supervision differently.

Team Development

Exercises

This tool provides some exercises that supervisors can use to facilitate team development, with the aim of strengthening team morale.

It’s important the exercise matches the purpose needed for the team, but there are a range of ideas included that can assist in sourcing the right activity.
